Rangers snub cinch again as SPFL sponsor row rumbles on

Rangers have again opted out of wearing the SPFL‘s sleeve patches in this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat by Dundee United as the row over the league’s sponsorship with the car trader continues.

The Light Blues have insisted they can’t wear the patches due to a conflict with an existing commercial contract, with reports suggesting cinch could pull the plug on the £8million deal.

Managing director Stewart Robertson has written to the 41 other SPFL clubs laying out Rangers’ reason for snubbing the deal but it is unclear what the next steps are going to be.

If Cinch pull the plug, it will see a reduction in the prize money available to clubs this season as well as likely spark a legal fight.

With Rangers looking unlikely to back down, there doesn’t appear to be an obvious resolution and the SPFL and Rangers will need to figure something out.

As well as not wearing the cinch sleeve patches, Rangers refused to use th cinch branding on backdrops for interviews or award a ‘cinch man of the match’ last weekend.

The SPFL held an emergency meeting earlier in the week without finding any sort of resolution – with Robertson also holding a seat on the SPFL’s board.
