When The Sopranos returns this week with The Many Saints of Newark, viewers will be introduced to a slew of new characters who will make some very formidable impressions on the world of young Anthony Soprano, played by Michael Gandolfini, the real-life son of the late, great James Gandolfini. Giuseppina Bruno, played by newcomer Michela De Rossi, and Aldo “Hollywood Dick” Moltisanti, the grandfather of Sopranos character Christopher Moltisanti, played by the living legend Ray Liotta, are among the new characters entering his world. However, because the veteran actor, who is best known for his roles in mafia films such as Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, will be playing a new role, his performance will be “multilayered,” to say the least. In an exclusive with PopCulture,
com, Liotta admits that his performance is one that studio execs and producers don’t want him to talk about too much in advance of the film’s release in theaters on Friday and streaming exclusively on HBO Max for 30 days. After all, not only his on-screen son, Richard “Dick” Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), but also young Anthony Soprano (Gandolfini) rely on him.
“They don’t want me to talk about it,” Liotta said of the experience and his multifaceted performance, “but with the question so eloquent… it was great.” “It was a lot of fun, and it just happened out of nowhere.” David [Chase, creator of the Sopranos series] approached me one day and asked, ‘Do you want to do this?’ ‘Whoa, yeah, let me take this on,’ I said. This is going to be a fun little challenge. ”
This isn’t the first time Liotta has аppeаred in the world of the Soprаnos. Giuseppinа Bruno, Aldo’s bride аnd аn аmbitious chаrаcter fresh from Itаly аnd new to the United Stаtes, wаs а role she couldn’t pаss up becаuse of its resemblаnce to her own life. So it wаs my first time out of Europe, first time in Americа, first foreign project — аnd it wаs the sаme for Guiseppinа. She wаs the first to аrrive. “It definitely helped me,” she stаted.
