Episode 16 preview…

The preview clip for the upcoming chapter aired after the credits from episode 15 on South Korean television.

Whilst the video has been shared by fans online, the full English subtitles are currently unavailable.

Why was episode 16 delayed?

According to reports online, the season 1 finale of Racket Boys was delayed because of the broadcast of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

This after Racket Boys already changed its broadcast schedule for the final few episodes, changing to a one-per-week broadcast.

This was, per reports online, in response to the rise of Covid-19 cases in South Korea and the airing of the Olympic Games.

There had already been concerns that the season finale would be pushed back after a supporting cast member tested positive for covid-19 on July 18th.

How is Racket Boys being rated by fans?

If you have watched the last 15 episodes of Racket Boys, you know how amazing this series is, but how is the K-drama actually performing with viewers?

Netflix doesn’t release viewership statistics for their content, but Racket Boys is continuing its solid performance on various user feedback websites, scoring an 8.4/10 on MyDramaList.

Domestically, the series has maintained a consistent fanbase and according to data from AGB Nielsen, is one of the most popular ongoing dramas in South Korea with an average audience share of 4.9%.

However, the series is looking to build more momentum as we move towards the finale, with episode 15 achieving a new personal best in terms of audience share, rising by half a point to 5.6%.

A quick recap of episode 15…

The episode opens with Tae-seon revealing that he is incredibly nervous about the upcoming matches, something echoed by his fellow players. The entire group is feeling the pressure, especially Hae-kang who is facing against his rival Park chan and for Hyeon-jong.

Yong-tae is first up and loses convincingly, seemingly defeated, he sits in the corridor in silence when Yong-dae (the player he copies off) turns up. When he returns, Yong-tae has newfound motivation and earns back the victory – a moment of inspiration for the rest of the team.

Yoon-dam’s family calls just before the game starts to offer support, but things go from bad to worse after he loses the first game and faints on the court. After he regains consciousness, Yoon-dam is focused on turning around the match and maintaining his perfect record – he does and there is more celebration in the stands.

On the quick side story, the villagers are looking through the paperwork about the golf course, which they are set to be compensated for. However, they start to realise the amount of errors in the document, giving them regrets about how the whole situation turned out.

The focus then turns towards the upcoming doubles match, where both teams are trying to be more strategic. Hyeon-jong names his new tactic ‘Racket Boys’ as he fields Woo-chan for defence and Hae-kang for attack.

The episode ends on two decidedly powerful notes; the villagers chasing away the construction men and our favourite Racket Boys heading out for their doubles match.
