Rivals join Spurs in hunt for 49-cap titan; Paratici is already in talks with teammate

Tottenham have been joined by Leicester City in the hunt for Inter Milan defender Stefan De Vrij.

According to the Sunday Star via the Express, the Foxes are in talks with the 49-cap Netherlands defender. Leicester need a centre-back after Wesley Fofana broke his leg last week in a pre-season friendly.

Tottenham this week confirmed the signing of Cristian Romero, yet the club appear to want a second centre-back this window in De Vrij.

Moreover, Fabio Paratici has reportedly agreed a deal with Inter for attacking teammate Lautaro Martinez as per the Times.

With Toby Alderweireld leaving the club earlier in the month, defence appears to be the club’s top priority this summer.

Furthermore, with Nuno Espirito Santo prioritising an attacking style of play, though, it makes sense why bolstering the backline is key for the Portuguese coach.

Tottenham target De Vrij was key to Inter’s title-winning season and has firmly established himself as one of Serie A’s top centre-backs since arriving in 2014.

Indeed, the defender has been a regular for Holland over the past five years too, and his experience could explain why Tottenham have taken an interest in De Vrij.

And with Inter open to selling the majority of their players this window, with Romelu Lukaku close to joining Chelsea, De Vrij could also be there for the taking for Tottenham.

As per the Sunday Star, the 29-year-old defender could cost around £38m. Yet with Spurs breaking their transfer record for Romero, there’s a good chance that Daniel Levy will open his chequebook again for the Inter titan.
