Salt Bae: Reddit shocked by diner’s supposed £37,000 bill

Salt Bae’s London restaurant has only been open for a few weeks and already, there is a serious buzz around the luxury steakhouse and its pricey menu.

Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, owns a chain of luxury steakhouses called Nusr-Et. Already established in Dubai, New York, and Mykonos, the Turkish chef’s London venue is his latest venture.

Several people have shared pictures of eye-watering receipts supposedly from Nusr-Et, but the latest receipt to go viral took the cost of dining at the restaurant to new heights.

A picture of a receipt posted to Reddit, which has since been removed from the r/London sub-Reddit, claims to show the sky-high price of dining at Nusr-Et London.

The receipt seemingly shows that a table of four racked up a shocking £37,000 bill, which included a £4,800 service charge. Incredibly, over £30,000 of the tab went towards five bottles of wine.

The diners sipped on two bottles of Petrus 2003, which if the receipt is to be believed, cost £9,950 each. They also guzzled a bottle of Petrus 1996 at a cost of £9,100.

More conservatively priced, relatively, were the two bottles of Dom Pérignon Rosé at £810 per bottle.

The rest of the bill seemingly went towards food and soft drinks, with the receipt showing the foursome shelled out £850 for a golden tomahawk, £18 for asparagus, £50 apiece for golden baklava, and £11 for a Red Bull.

Commenting on the Reddit thread, one user wrote that posting receipts from this restaurant is “the latest social media flex”.

Another wrote: “You spent £30k of the £37k bill on Petrus. That’s not the restaurant ‘being expensive’ that’s you buying a crazy expensive wine.”

This is just the latest receipt to stun the internet. After opening last month, a bill worth £1,800 did the rounds on Twitter.

The chef’s methods have also divided TikTok after he poured melted butter on top of raw steak over a hot plate.

Since opening its doors the restaurant has welcomed celebrity diners such as TV royalty Gemma Collins. After tucking into a lavish golden tomahawk steak worth £1,450, Collins “felt bad” because there are “people starving in the world”. To alleviate the guilt, Collins donated four bags of bras to charity.

Speaking on The Gemma Collins Podcast, she said despite the guilt, she would have spent money to meet him regardless, saying it’s a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.

The chef previously served Donald Trump Jr, DJ Khaled, Leonardo DiCaprio, Conor McGregor, P Diddy and David Beckham at his other restaurants dotted across the globe.

Keen to try it ourselves, indy100 reviewed Salt Bae’s (much cheaper) fast food restaurant in New York.
