Simon Cowell almost unrecognisable with huge smile on his face in selfie with Maya Jama

SIMON Cowell looked almost unrecognisable with a huge smile on his face as he posed for a selfie with Maya Jama.

The Sun revealed yesterday that the former Radio 1 DJ had been selected to front Simon’s brand new show Walk The Line later this year.

And the 27-year-old star excitedly confirmed the news on Instagram today, sharing a beaming snap with the music mogul himself.

In the pic, Maya is casually resting one hand on Simon’s shoulder as he poses with his hands on his hips.

The 61-year-old TV favourite is famed for his moody put-downs and serious nature, and looks uncharacteristic as he squints his eyes and bares his teeth in a huge grin.

Maya captioned the post: “GOOD NEWS GANG😭🤯😆 From watching talent shows made by this man growing up to hosting one myself on big bloody ITV is honestly a dream🥺

“I don’t wana get all deep on here but the journey has been a mad one & I am so so grateful for the opportunity and excited for this next chapter 🙏🏽 Walk The Line .. coming soooon .. brb gna scream off my balcony”.

Her followers were quick to share their congratulations, but many admitted to being distracted by Simon’s appearance.

One wrote: “Never seen Simon this happy 😂😂”

Another added: “I’ve never seen him show all his teeth like that, he must really love you 😂”

A show insider previously told us of Maya’s new gig: “Maya is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new faces on British television right now. Everybody is chuffed to have her on board to present Walk The Line. Maya and Simon already have a great rapport so it’s a no-brainer to have her joining the show.

“It’s a new format so it’s a perfect hire, as Maya brings something fresh and exciting. It really seems like the perfect fit. Simon has made it clear to everyone that this show is something completely different, so it makes total sense to bring in a new talent line-up to join him on the series.”

Since making her primetime hosting debut last year fronting Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer and the 2021 follow up Crouchy’s Year Late Euros Live on BBC1, Maya has established herself in the big league of TV presenters.

Maya and Simon already have a great rapport so it’s a no-brainer to have her joining the show.

Her decision to quit Radio 1 in May last year to concentrate on TV projects has certainly paid off, especially as she also took over from Stacey Dooley as host of BBC3 make-up series Glow Up.

Simon will be taking on his familiar role as judge in Walk The Line, which will see musical acts take the stage in a bid to win a £500,000 top prize.
Big money jackpot

The twist in the series sees the top two performers from each episode decide whether to go home and settle for a cash prize or walk the line and play on in a bid to win the big money jackpot.

Should they choose to stay in the competition, they’ll progress to the next show, taking on a new set of performers.

The cash-out prize grows every night, meaning the risk of staying in the competition increases.
