Simon Cowell Is Starting A Driving Rival To ‘Top Gear’

Simon Cowell wants to take on one of the top driving shows on television. Reports are that the millionaire producer wants to start a show that will rival BBC’s Top Gear in the very near future.

It makes some sense considering the man’s free time interests.

The carhead media mogul — worth an estimated $400 million — boasts a string of cars including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, an Eagle Speedster, a Bugatti Veyron and a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.

This isn’t a man who just likes cars. He likes some of the best and highest quality cars in the world.

One source, talking to The Sun said Cowell wanting to do a show like this makes quite a bit of sense. “Simon has always been a huge car lover — and a car show is always something he has been interested in doing.”

Simon Cowell Going Back To ‘Top Gear’ In A Way

“He was famously a guest driver on Top Gear and loves talking cars,” the source added. “He has been approached by a number of well-known car experts and racing drivers wanting to partner with him over the years.”

That same person said that Cowell feels like there’s a big television appetite for a show like Top Gear. Finally they said that for the multi-millionaire producer, it just seems like a no-brainer for him to start a driving show.

Other Projects In The Works

Before he starts Top Gear‘s rivalry show, Cowell is already working on something else. He’s starting a game show that is going to have a limited six-part run. Then it will apparently be time to turn to something else. That’s when he could start to work on his new driving show.

Top Gear — which has featured anonymous test driver The Stig — has been running since 2002.

It has been one of the BBC’s most commercially successful programs — watched by viewers around the globe.

That particular detail is one of the reasons why taking the show head to head seems like a dangerous endeavor.

However, if there is anyone who could take on the show, it would be Simon Cowell. There’s a reason he’s been as successful as he has. Indeed, he’s got a touch for knowing what show will be successful and which won’t.

He’s the King Midas of reality television. Everything Cowell touches turns to ratings gold. If he believes that Top Gear is something that can be rivaled, if he believes a show can actually compete with the program for ratings, then he’s almost certainly right.

Just when this new show is set to air is anyone’s guess at this point. However, it doesn’t seem like a show that would take all that long to put together and get up and running.
