Aston Villa fans were in awe of Jaden Philogene-Bidace today after he helped his side beat Salernitana 3-1 in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

The 19-year-old has been outstanding throughout the summer for Villa and he continued that against the newly-promoted Serie A side – Danny Ings, Anwar El Ghazi and Ashley Young were the players on the scoresheet.

Villa were due to play Sevilla on Saturday, but the Spanish side had to pull out at the last minute because of COVID-19 cases.

But whatever the opposition, Philogene-Bidace’s twinkle toes, delivery and great decision making were on point once again.

Given the strong performances the Bodymoor Heath academy graduate is putting in, it’s going to be interesting to see if he is handed a start against Watford next week.

Many Villa supporters would like to see him named in the starting XI at Vicarage Road because they feel he is pretty close.

In truth, Anwar El Ghazi and Emiliani Buendia are the only ones threatening to start out wide because Leon Bailey is yet to play for the club and Bertrand Traore has only recently returned to action.

Ollie Watkins is another option on the flanks, but it seems as though Smith is going to deploy a two up top formation following the arrival of Danny Ings.

Either way, with one academy graduate in Jack Grealish out of the Villa Park door, it’s time for another to shine and showcase his worth.

And perhaps this is the time for Philogene-Bidace to step into the limelight.
