Some Liverpool fans react after Klopp makes honest admission

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Jurgen Klopp claimed Harvey Elliott, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will be like three new signings, via LiverpoolFC.com.

The Reds boss has addressed the Anfield side’s lack of transfers as he set out his ambitions for the rest of the summer market. Liverpool have so far only signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig since finishing last season third in the Premier League.

But Klopp has also lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer and a host of depth from his Merseyside ranks. Which the German does not expect to replace, it appears, as he looks to use who is already at Liverpool.

Klopp has also descried Elliott, Van Dijk, Gomez and Joel Matip as new signings after rarely being available for Liverpool last season. Elliott spent the term on loan at Blackburn Rovers, while injuries thwarted the trio of centre-backs.

“When you don’t have a lot of changes, that’s good,” Klopp said. “We have new signings, we brought three players we couldn’t use last year for most of the season, we have back in the team.

“We have obviously a new midfielder in our squad with Harvey Elliott [and] we have players who can make a big step to fulfil their potential, they are in a good way. That’s how it is.

“But the situation, I’m completely fine. We all are not blind; we see what other teams are doing. But, again, we don’t have to be better than them, we only have to be able to beat them. That’s what we try to do as often as somehow possible.”

But some Liverpool supporters have not taken Klopp’s comments well, as they believe the German needs to spend this summer. And if he does not, they doubt the Anfield outfit will be able to challenge for the Premier League title.

Some are excited by the prospect of seeing Elliott play on Merseyside in 2021/22, though. The 18-year-old scored seven times and offered 11 assists in 41 Championship appearances last season.
