Spurs have seemingly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.
According to Football London, the north London side agreed a fee with the Serie A title holders for the striker before Chelsea interest talks with Romelu Lukaku.
However, the Belgian attacker is on the brink of joining the Blues as reported by BBC Sport. And could Spurs face the real possibility of missing out on Martinez this summer.
To add more fire to the fuel, the player’s agent admitted via Fabrizio Romano that Martinez will stay at Inter in a hammer blow for Spurs.
Indeed, the prospect of signing Martinez always seemed like an audacious one for the north London side.

However, these latest updates seem to indicate that a deal for Martinez will be difficult for Spurs to complete this window. Especially if Chelsea manage to complete the signing of Lukaku in the coming days.
Tottenham have made three first-team signings this summer. But if Harry Kane was to leave Spurs this window, Martinez would have been an excellent replacement for the England captain.
And on social media, Tottenham supporters are not confident that the Inter striker will join the club this window given this new information.
Here’s what some Spurs fans had to say about these latest updates surrounding Martinez on Twitter…

Romero all over again, waiting for them to find a replacement probably.

I can’t see inter selling both lukaku and Martinez at the same time but if they’ve agreed a fee then they’ve already agreed to let him go

Could be a transfer merry go round then with Inter signing Dzeko, Lautaro coming here and Kane moving to Citeh. Not a complete circle, but still!

I don’t see them allowing both strikers to leave.
