Texas Longhorns earn commitments from 2 of the nation’s best defensive linemen

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas added two top 50 defensive linemen prospects for the class of 2022 Monday, earning commitments from Texas’ Jaray Bledsoe and Louisiana’s J’Mond Tapp.

Tapp, the four star defensive lineman out of Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, La, becomes the Longhorns’ highest rated defensive lineman prospect in the class.

He had 21 total scholarship offers, choosing The Forty Acres over Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and the leading program in his home state, LSU.

Bledsoe, from Marlin High School near Waco, chose Texas over Alabama, Texas A&M, Baylor, Florida and Arkansas. 247 Sports has him ranked as the No. 123 prospect in the nation and a top 50 defensive lineman.

The 6’5, 275 pound defender is an Under Armour All-American, who transferred to Marlin from Bremond High School prior to his senior season.

According to MaxPreps, he had 104 total tackles at Bremond in 2020.

Texas has 19 total commitments after Bledsoe’s decision, which puts Steve Sarkisian’s first true recruiting class at No. 7 in the 247 Sports team rankings. The Longhorns have the fourth-most commitments out of the top 20 teams in the 2022 rankings.
