‘The Wire’ Star Michael K. Williams Found Dead In Apartment At Age 54

Actor Michael K. Williams was found dead in his apartment. Best known for his breakout role in HBO’s The Wire as Omar Little, the star was 54 at the time of his passing. According to multiple news outlets, his cause of death is suspected to be a drug overdose.

According to TMZ, law enforcements reveal Michael K. Williams was found dead in his apartment on Labor Day of 2021. Relatives grew concerned after no one had heard from the actor in a few days. So, his nephew went to his apartment in Brooklyn to check on him. NY Post reports his body was discovered by his nephew around 2 p.m. today. He was officially pronounced dead just 12 minutes later.

The Actor’s Cause Of Death Suspected To Be Overdose

Michael K. Williams’ nephew found the actor dead in the dining room of his apartment. According to multiple news outlets, law enforcements confirm there appeared to be heroin on the kitchen table.

“I found the body,” a man — presumed to be the nephew — cried while talking on the phone outside of the apartment.

Michael K. Williams Has Several TV Credits On His Resume

The actor is best known for his breakout role in The Wire. But, he had several other TV credits attached to his resume at the time of his passing. He also starred in several different HBO shows including Boardwalk Empire, The Night Of, and Lovecraft Country. He also had roles in a few movies including Assassin’s Creed and 12 Years a Slave.

One of the first things that comes to mind when fans think about Michael K. Williams is his signature facial scar. According to TMZ, the actor got into a pretty serious bar fight on his 25th birthday. A bar fight that nearly left him dead. The bar fight also left him with a signature facial scar that would later become one of his trademarks.

During interviews, Michael K. Williams revealed the facial scar helped launch his career in acting. It resulted in roles in music videos and minor roles as thugs in TV shows.

The actor had been nominated for an Emmy five different times. And, he leaves behind his son Elijah.
