The Phoenix Suns are coming off a loss in the NBA Finals this season. They were taken down by the Milwaukee Bucks and have their eyes on the prize for next season. The pieces are back in place for Phoenix and there is a chance to improve the roster with a trade in the offseason.
It began when Chris Paul came to town. This put the future Hall-of-Fame point guard at the top of the offense to pull it all together. This happened as the Suns were the second seed in the Western Conference and made a run through the postseason.
Paul opted out of his contract but decided to stay in Phoenix with a four-year deal worth $120 million. Once Russell Westbrook went to the Los Angeles Lakers, it seemed clear that Paul would remain with the Suns. Now, they could look to add another star in a trade this offseason.
The New Orleans Pelicans made some moves in free agency but could continue to be aggressive in the trade market. The Pelicans added Devonte’ Graham in a sign-and-trade deal with the Charlotte Hornets. This was viewed to be the big move to put a point guard at the top with Zion Williamson.
New Orleans have to add the necessary pieces around Williamson so they can keep him around long-term. That can happen by adding some depth and other assets to build the franchise and get them moving in the right direction.
This offseason trade could be one that benefits both the Suns and Pelicans. Let’s take a closer look and see how this trade could happen in the offseason.
