Tinder’s most successful singles share their secrets for attracting hot dates

Dating app Tinder has millions of users around the world who swipe right everyday looking for the love of their life… or a hookup.

And, this week, the app revealed its seven most successful Tinder members who turned heads on the dating site’s “Swipe Island”.

The virtual zone allowed singletons to crack on in an online space created to imitate Love Island’s Casa Amour.

Even eight ex-Love Islanders were on the hunt for a partner…

And, having ended the dating game Tinder used the data to find the hottest singletons who took part.

The seven most successful UK singles are a mix of genders, sexual orientations, backgrounds, interests and professions, including a primary school teacher, radiographer and a lifeguard.

And, the one thing they have in common is that they are in the top 99th percentile of Tinder users based on their matches, conversation and swipe activity.

What turns your head?

“A good sense of humour is a big plus; someone who is able to not take life too seriously. Let’s face it, life is hard. So, I would like to find somebody who can make me laugh after a stressful day at work. However, I think there is a big difference between someone who has a good sense of humour and a person who’s not serious in life. I want someone who brings out the best version of myself, someone who is thoughtful. I’m close with my family so it would be important for a potential match to get along with them; especially my mum!”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“Don’t just have the same selfies on repeat, even if you’re in a different outfit each time. I think having a variety of pictures in different situations, whether it be with friends or playing sports, helps to create a more rounded profile. Also a witty opening line in a bio definitely helps to catch attention.”

Who would you couple up with from this series of Love Island?

“It would probably be Matt! He seems so chill, down to earth and genuinely a nice guy. He also has an insane body which helps!”

What turns your head?

My ideal guy would be someone that can match my energy. I love to get out and about, trying different foods, visiting new places and ticking off things on my bucket list. I am chatty and enjoy a giggle, so if you can make me laugh you’ve already caught my interest. I like someone that is confident in themselves and complimentary towards me (we all love someone that makes us feel special). Ultimately, I would like someone in my life that is honest, trustworthy and loyal – to stand by me and make memories with me.”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“Be true to who you are, show off your personality and display your best assets! Choose pictures that you feel great in and genuinely feel happy at the time, because others will pick up on this from your photos. Happiness is attractive! I’d suggest taking pictures that show a close up of your face, full lengths of your body and pictures at different angles as this variety shows you in your full glory – be proud of who you are! With conversation, being friendly and warm is key! Girls always appreciate a compliment and like someone that can make them laugh… be easy going and open minded”.

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“I love seeing friendships blossom and romances start! If I had a choice of who to couple up with I would have chosen Sam Jackson because he seemed like a gentleman but also a laugh… plus he wasn’t too difficult to look at either! My absolute favourite girls are Liberty and Chloe though as they seem like gorgeous girls inside and out! Liberty is a girls girl which I love and Chloe makes me laugh so much with her sass – it’s brilliant!”

What turns your head?

“As someone that likes the finer things in life, I’m looking for a guy that enjoys a similar lifestyle and that can match my energy. Of course, there has to be the initial attraction, but if a guy is outgoing and has good morals, then he’ll definitely turn my head. I’d also like to match with someone who works as hard as me, both in the gym and at the office. And don’t forget strong conversation, then I’ll know I’m seriously onto a winner.”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“I’d say if you’re interested in someone then definitely skip the waiting game and just message them first. In your profile, include photos which show you at your best and avoid group photos as no one has time for guessing who’s who. Also, if you want to start things off on a positive note, I’d recommend not putting a list of criteria in your bio of what you don’t want in a match. It can be really off putting and create a pessimistic tone.”

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“I’d either have coupled up with Brad, as he has such a handsome smile and is clean cut, or Chuggs who looks a bit like Prince Charming to me!”

Oisin, 19, Belfast, Uni Student / Lifeguard

What turns your head?

“I’m looking for a girl who is sporty and shares my passion for working out. I play Gaelic Football for my club and county and want someone who’s going to cheer me on from the sidelines, or even kick the ball with me. It’s also really important to me that my match is modest and down to earth – arrogance is definitely a turnoff!”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“My top tip would be to open the conversation with a GIF or your best joke, to kick things off on the right foot. I also reckon that showing off your hobbies and interests in your photos gives your match something to chat with you about and know straight away if you’ll have things in common.”

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“If I was on the show this year, I’d definitely be putting all my eggs in Millie’s basket. Let’s face it she is FIT and also has a cracking sense of humour. Most of all, she seems so real and genuine and I am all for that.”

What turns your head?

“I recently finished my degree in Fine Art so I’d love to find someone that was really creative. In my spare time I love writing and host a podcast called Hunbelievable with my sister, so someone who also has creative flair would turn my head! An arty boy would be ideal. I’m looking for a nice guy – someone who is funny and doesn’t take themselves too seriously and ideally they’d be quite tall because I’m 5’9 and like wearing heels on a night out.”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“Your photos have got to reflect what you actually look like normally, so nothing too filtered or out of date. Recent pictures are a must – I don’t want to be surprised by someone having facial hair in their photos and then meeting in person to find you freshly shaven! I actually matched with Chuggs on Swipe Island and slid straight in there with a joke. My top advice would be to chat with someone like you know them, no small talk, come at me with humour, emojis and great one liners.”

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“Teddy, 100%! He fits my nice guy territory and is absolutely gorgeous. I did like Brad too before he left, he was super calm and importantly tall! I find Toby hilarious with his feral energy, a mix of him and Teddy would be perfect!”

What turns your head?

“Someone who I can have a laugh with, be myself around and just be able to chill out with – this type of guy is way more likely to bring out the best in me. I also rate someone that is able to compromise and enjoys learning new things, someone who is kind-hearted like myself and someone that can just appreciate even the little things in life.

I’m not into overly camp guys but I find someone who can find the balance just right to be very attractive. I like to see someone who is passionate about their work, as having a good and strong work ethic always gets a big tick from me. And last but not least, a good kisser and someone who’s able to whip up a storm in the kitchen certainly wouldn’t go amiss.”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“For anyone seeking some tips to level up your Tinder profile I think that it’s incredibly important that you just put yourself out there as you and not some fake ego persona. When it comes to the conversations you may have with them, just be yourself and answer honestly – whatever your instinct tells you to say.

“Show some humour when you are chatting to someone, share with them if they’ve made you smile or laugh. Just don’t hold back. My attitude is very much ‘What have I got to lose?’ when it comes to dating so I always aim to present my true self whenever I can. In terms of the pictures for your profile, I would say edited and filtered photos are a big no, as the last thing you want to find out is that someone didn’t ask you on a second date because you didn’t look like your profile.

“Don’t be afraid to show your true self.”

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“If he was also gay, I probably would have coupled up with Matthew. He’s just my type – he has such a lovely nature. He made me laugh and I remember him saying that he was chilled and adventurous, so that would’ve been a big yes for me.”

What turns your head?

“I’m super sporty, I used to swim competitively, horse ride and be part of the cheerleading team at uni so I am looking for someone to keep up with me! I’d love to find someone energetic and adventurous, I’m an active person and love to learn new things. Anyone that could teach me something new definitely ticks a box!”

What’s your advice for getting noticed on Tinder?

“Being honest, my bio covers my good bits and bad bits but it’s truthful! Everyone should be as authentic as they can be so there’s no surprises later down the line. I think a good first photo works wonders and ideally not a group shot so I know who I’m looking out for. One guy did put arrows in his group photo saying ‘this is me’ that made me laugh! Listing your hobbies is a great conversation starter too.

Who would you couple up from this series of Love Island?

“I think Toby is the funniest in the villa, so would definitely pick him personality wise. I reckon we’d get on like a house on fire and can imagine us constantly laughing. Liam is also gorgeous but I’m 100% Team Milliam – I’d definitely want to be friends with Millie, she’s down to earth and I love her outfits.”
