Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of beating Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to Lautaro Martínez, according to The Times.
What’s the story?
The Times are reporting today (12pm) that Tottenham have agreed a fee for Inter Milan striker Martínez.
It has been reported that Spurs will pay in excess of £60 million for the Argentina international.
The 23-year-old striker will actually play alongside Harry Kane at Spurs, who will not sell the England international despite strong interest from Manchester City.
Arsenal have also been looking at Martinez as a potential signing this summer, but bitter North London rivals Spurs have beaten them in the race, according to the report.
Exciting signing for Tottenham
Martinez is a very good striker who is still only 23, and he would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham.
Lionel Messi, who is leaving Barcelona, described his Argentina international teammate Martinez as “spectacular”, “impressive” and “complete” in Mundo Deportivo in May 2020.
The youngster scored 17 goals and gave six assists in Serie A last season, and scored 14 goals and provided three assists in the league in 2019-20.
Martinez played alongside Romelu Lukaku at Inter, which suggests that he would not have any problem in doing the same with Kane at Spurs.
Kane and Martinez playing as the front-two for Tottenham is surely going to excite the fans.
As for Arsenal, the Gunners will surely be disappointed to be missing out on a striker who can only grow and develop in the coming years.
