Tottenham ‘not hopeful’ of completing fourth summer signing; London rivals are to blame

Tottenham are reportedly not confident in completing a deal to bring Lautaro Martinez to north London this summer.

According to Football London, Spurs are ‘not hopeful’ that Inter Milan will sanction the sale of the Argentina striker should Romelu Lukaku join Chelsea this week.

The Belgian attacker is close to signing with the west London side for a club-record fee as reported by BBC Sport.

As reported by the Times over the weekend, Tottenham had agreed on a fee with Inter for Martinez. However, details came to the surface that a deal was far from done.

Indeed, the player’s agent even went on record via Fabrizio Romano that the striker is happy in Italy.

Spurs are eager to sign an attacker this summer with Harry Kane’s future in doubt and the squad currently lacking a backup striker.

Whilst Dane Scarlett has impressed in pre-season, the teenager is still too inexperienced and raw to be handed regular first-team chances.

Martinez is not the only striker Tottenham are interested in, though. As per Football London, Spurs are also keen on AFC Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.

However, just like the Inter Milan star, the Serbian international is eager to remain in Italy for next season.

With just over three weeks of the window left to do business, Tottenham do have time on their hands to identify a new striker to sign should Inter decide to retain Martinez this summer.
