Twitter is coming for America’s sweetheart.
Eagle-eyed users on Twitter noticed that Carrie Underwood (or someone with access to her account) liked a tweet from conservative commentator Matt Walsh opposing a proposed mask mandate in schools.
The tweet, which features a video of Walsh’s speech to the Metro Nashville Public School board, with the caption:
“Here is my speech to the Nashville School Board where I spoke out against the cruel and indefensible mask mandate for children.”

And obviously, Twitter did what Twitter does and is now coming after Carrie for being “anti-mask” (and “anti-vaxx,” despite the tweet having nothing to do with vaccinations).

Your reminder that Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher don’t give a shit about the pandemic or how many people have died unnecessarily from it. Do better, @carrieunderwood, this is embarrassing and dangerous. pic.twitter.com/X2MIaRDLqh

Of course there were also those who came to Carrie’s defense.
I love you ever more than I already did, @carrieunderwood. Thanks for being one of the few celebrities left that have a brain! 💜💜💜💜💜

I’m going to say something that is going to be hard for some of you to hear.
Yes Carrie Underwood is absolutely conservative.
So are a lot of stars you love.
Get over it.

For his part, Walsh responded by mocking the outrage.
Carrie Underwood liked my video and now the mob is coming for her. She should know better than to like something that they don’t like. This is an unforgivable sin. https://t.co/ksPEKrnCnT

I agree. I am also offended. https://t.co/yjLtiIssVM

Like anyone else, I am upset and disturbed that Carrie Underwood liked one of my tweets. She should know better than to indirectly endorse the opinions of an extremist and scoundrel such as myself. Her lack of judgment is appalling. I demand that she renounce me and apologize.

Just another sign of the world we live in these days.
And honestly, it’s just exhausting.
