Watch: Chris Martin Sings BTS Collab ‘My Universe’ In Korean

Coldplay and BTS have dropped their highly anticipated collaboration, “My Universe.”

The Coldplay singer performed an acoustic rendition of the song, which was released Friday, when he appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Martin surprised host Kelly Clarkson by singing two of BTS’ verses in their native Korean.

Martin sang Jungkook’s portion of the lyrics in Korean, which translated in English to, “I fly to you every night/ Forgetting that it’s just a dream/ I meet you with a smile,” according to Genius.

The 44-year-old British singer also delivered V, RM and Jimin’s verse in their native language, which translated to, “Darkness used to be more comfortable for me/ Within the long shadows/ And they said that we can’t be together/ Because, because we come from different sides.”

In the video, Clarkson appeared surprised when Martin began singing in Korean. She smiled and encouraged him saying, “Go ahead!” After Martin’s performance, Clarkson exclaimed, “Oh my god!” and gave the “Yellow” crooner a standing ovation as the audience cheered.

Online users who watched the video of the performance uploaded to YouTube appeared to be just as impressed as Clarkson by Martin singing the Korean lyrics.

“Chris Martin is an actual gem. The fact that he took the effort to learn how to sing the Korean verse. His band flying to Korea to work with BTS also shows immense dedication and respect,” one person commented.

“I can’t begin to express this effort that Chris has put together. Music does go beyond the boundaries of language and culture and Chris here has proven that. Amazing human being,” another wrote.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Martin shared that former manager Phil Harvey and producer Max Martin originally wanted to give the song to BTS. However, they eventually suggested that Coldplay should hold on to the song and later collaborate on it with BTS.

“We started communicating with BTS and then went to Korea,” Martin explained. “The concept of, it’s a song about love difficult or it’s forbidden or you can’t quite get it together … it felt like really cool to have two bands that, it’s a difficult love story, but it works in the end.”

Martin has become a huge fan of BTS. “I love them, and we love them,” he said, adding that he was “grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song and grateful for the people we sing it with.”

Coldplay’s new album “Music of the Spheres,” which will include “My Universe,” will be released on Oct. 15.
