‘What is happening?’ Some Arsenal fans are reacting to William Saliba’s debut for Marseille

Arsenal loanee William Saliba was on the winning side tonight.

The French centre-back enjoyed a successful debut for Marseille, who secured a dramatic 3-2 win away to Montpellier.

Saliba, who joined Arsenal for £27 million two years ago but hasn’t made a single competitive appearance, seemed to impress fans of the North London club.

The 20-year-old, who stands at 6’4, was a rock at the heart of his side’s defence with six clearances and three interceptions [WhoScored].

The former Saint-Etienne powerhouse also displayed his attacking qualities with a number of forays into enemy territory from deep.

What happened?

It was a debut to remember for the Arsenal man; not only because it was a winning one, but also because of the chaos that ensued toward the end.

The referee suspended the game temporarily with a couple of minutes of normal time remaining after the home support began launching missiles from the terraces.

Matteo Guendouzi – also on loan from the Gunners – cut a frustrated figure amid the carnage, prompted after Marseille scored three times in the final 20 minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit.
