What’s the minimum age one should have to go to Met Gala 2021?

The biggest event in the fashion calendar is almost here – The Met Gala 2021!

Anna Wintour’s prestigious charity event is usually held on the first Monday in May, but due to the pandemic, it’s been postponed.

It’s now being held this Monday, September 13th, at it’s usual venue, the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

That means is concedes with the end of New York Fashion Week, making it one of the biggest Met Gala’s ever.

The rumoured guest list is already hotting up, but how old do you have to be to attend? Can kids go to the Met Gala? Let’s find out.

MET GALA AGE LIMIT REVEALED

To go to the Met Gala, you have to be over 18 years-old, and there are strictly no kids allowed.

However, this hasn’t always been the case. Celebrities always used to attend the gala with their children. For example, Will Smith brought Jaden and Willow in 2016.

It wasn’t actually until 2018 that the Met Gala introduced the new age restriction.

It was initially thought that the age restriction was due to the 2018 theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and would be temporary.

However, as reported by The Independent, a spokesperson for the Met Gala said the decision had been permanently made because: “It’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”

WHO GETS TO GO TO THE GALA?

The Met Gala guest list is exclusively chosen by Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

It’s invite only, so the only way celebrities can attend the charity event is by getting invited.

Fashion designers usually buy tables at the gala for $200,000 to $300,000 and invite celebrities, who will also be dressed by them.

The Met Gala makes a list of names of celebrities they think should be invited and distributes that list to designers who have purchased tables at the event.

Designers will then send out invitations to the people they want to wear their clothes and represent their brand. However, all invitations have to be approved by Anna Wintour, and the designer cannot have the final say.

Invitations are usually based on a person’s status. So, if you’re popular in your industry at the time, be it a model, musician, actor, businessman or influencer, you’re likely to get a seat.

If you didn’t get an invite from a designer, it is possible to buy a ticket for around $35,000, but these are very hard to come by.

MET GALA 2021 GUEST LIST

This year, the event is being chaired by Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka.

In addition, designer Tom Ford, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri will all attend, with Instagram sponsoring the event.

The official guest list has not been revealed yet, but there are some rumours flooding social media.

According to Page Six, there will be a lot of influencers invited for the first time ever, including Addison Rae and Emma Chamberlain.

Other people believed to be attending include Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Allyson Feli, Camilla Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, Shawn Mendez, Lorde and Rosalía.

However, there are concerns that many of the gala’s usual attendees won’t be able to attend due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
