A woman was branded an “utter fool” after she revealed she paid £36,000 to rent a fancy house in Cheshire for six months.
Tiktok user Brit, who goes by the username @2.britt shared her confession in a video which she uploaded on the social media site.
And people couldn’t believe it as they pointed out she could have got a mortgage and bought her own home with that.
In the clip, the 20-year-old shared her regret that she’d spent such a huge amount of money on renting a property.
She said: “Thinking about when I dropped £36,000 up front on a house to rent for 12 months.”
In a follow-up clip, she explained that she was renting in Alderley Edge at the time, but that she decided to move because the area was “too Tory” for her.
Because she moved, the landlord refunded her for the months she didn’t spend at the property.
She added: “I was renting in Alderley Edge in Cheshire and I moved like, somewhere else, because it was too Tory for me, but we got the money back for the months that we didn’t live there.
“So, it’s all good but still, like, who does that? Me.”
The video has gone viral, racking up 255,000 views, as people couldn’t believe how much rent Brit was paying.
One viewer joked: “You could’ve got 12,000 meal deals with that.”
While another exclaimed: “You could’ve bought two houses for that in Bradford.”
“WHAT KIND OF A PLACE WAS 3K A MONTH?”, asked another shocked commenter.
“That’s a deposit on a house…”, said someone else as another agreed: “But why did you not just put a deposit down on a house?”
Answering the mortgage questions, Brit revealed it was impossible for her to buy a house at the time.
She explained: “I couldn’t get a mortgage because I was 19 and had no paid tax years yet. Should’ve just invested it.”
Another TikTok user hit headlines this week for having her entire mortgage secretly paid off… by her ex no less.
Shaun Nyland left his ex-girlfriend gobsmacked by paying off her entire mortgage as a birthday surprise “for being a good mum”.
