On media day, David Griffin, the vice president of basketball operations for the New Orleans Pelicans, revealed that Zion Williamson fractured his right foot during an offseason workout in early August.

The Pelicans decided to keep Zion’s injury a secret after losing Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls after allowing him to enter free agency. Williamson had surgery over the summer and is not expected to participate in the preseason, but the Pelicans expect him to be ready and fully fit by the start of the regular season.

The 2021 All-Star appeared in 61 games in the NBA last season, with the Pelicans failing to make the Playoffs due to some unlucky injuries. Williamson averaged 27 points per game. 7 points, 2 points 2 rebounds and 3 assists 7 assists, but he did not take part in the Pelicans’ recent informal workouts in Nashville.

David Griffin commented on the injury, sаying,

“His timeline should get him back on the court in time for the regular season.” That is our hope and viewpoint, and we are very optimistic about the prospects.
