Sky broadband down: Thousands left without internet after major outage

Sky Broadband customers in the UK have been without internet since Wednesday night.

From 9.45pm on Wednesday more than 2,300 people had reported having issues with their Sky internet, according to DownDetector, a website which offers a real-time overview of issues and outages for all kinds of services.

SkyHelpTeam told followers at around 8:40am on Thursday morning that engineers were working to get customers back online.

It tweeted: “Engineers are on site and working to restore service ASAP. You can keep up to date on the My Sky App and check your service status here: sky.com/mybroadband We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

Sky has said it is dealing with the issue

Affected broadband users took to social media on Wednesday night in their thousands to ask why it was not working.

The situation appears to have dragged on overnight, much to the fury of those relying on the internet.

Frustrated social media users were also less than impressed with Sky Help Team’s tweet which one person has slammed as “tone death”.

Sky Help Team posted at 8:30am “Rise and shine, Twitter!

Some dissatisfied customers are still struggling to get online

“Struggling to wake #SkyQ this morning? Head over to our website where you’ll find all the help you need”.

One Twitter user wrote on Thursday: “Did you struggle to wake your engineers last night and this morning as broadband is still down. 10 hours and counting now.”

Another said: “Tone deaf. Internet access has been down for 12 hours in parts of the country, and at a time when a huge amount of people need to work from home. Just give us an update.”

Twitter users made the point of people needing their internet back to work for the day

“Can I ask WHAT is going on with your sky services … internet went off last night for ages finally came bk on this mornin round 2 am now it has gone again, pls dnt ask us to follow links that don’t even work etc absolute JOKE,” a third commented on a tweet by Sky UK.

Others appeared to be aggravated by another post by Sky Help Team at 9pm on Wednesday.

The page tweeted: “Goodnight everyone & sweet dreams

“We’ll be back tomorrow at 08:30am to help out. For support while we’re away you can check out our online help articles here https://sky.com/help/home

In response, someone raged: “Really, you have issues all over the country and that’s it….. Goodnight will be switching in the morning”
