Arsenal to prioritise two areas after £20m transfer; Arteta already has targets in mind

Arsenal will prioritise signing an attacking midfielder and a goalkeeper after Joe Willock completes his £20m transfer to Newcastle.

According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are eager to add more creative quality to the squad as well as competition for Bernd Leno this summer. The Gunners have already made three signings this window.

As per the report, Mikel Arteta is eyeing a move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, with Martin Odegaard also on Arsenal’s radar.

Reports elsewhere also suggest that the Basque manager is keen on Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale, who Arsenal have identified as a transfer target for most of the window.

The north London side have had a productive window so far, with the club spending over £80m. However, transfers out of Arsenal have been slow, as they usually are for the north London side.

Arsenal still have plenty of transfer business to do

With as many as ten first-team players available for transfer, Willock is the first name that will be permanently sold this window.

Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba both left for Marseille on loan. Whilst the club have done a complete 180 Granit Xhaka, who will now sign a new long-term deal.

Yet Arsenal and Arteta appear to be targeting potential transfers in the right areas with three weeks of the window left to conduct business.

The Gunners’ pre-season friendlies painted a painful reminder to fans that the side lack quality in the final third.

But with Leicester open to selling Maddison this window, Arsenal could plug a huge hole in their squad with the transfer of the 24-year-old attacking midfielder.
