Danny Murphy has told The Daily Mail that Leeds United fans will love Junior Firpo.

The Premier League season kicks off in a week and Leeds have made just two senior signings so far – Firpo and a permanent deal for Jack Harrison.

But the addition of the left-back is certainly a notable one after signing the player from Barcelona for a £13 million fee.

Jordi Alba’s presence at Camp Nou rendered the 24-year-old a bit of a spectator during his two-year spell with the Spanish giants, where he started only 14 Liga games across both seasons.

But there was a reason why Barcelona signed him in the first place and it’s because he can be absolutely electric.

And Murphy believes that the Elland Road faithful will fall in love with a player of his qualities, claiming the lad already ‘very Leeds’.

He told The Mail: “Firpo loves bombing forward and does these little tricks and skills that will endear himself to the Elland Road crowd. He’s very Leeds; always likes to play on the front foot and his challenge will be coping with the defensive side over the course of the season.

“He can also slot in at centre-back if necessary but it’ll be his runs up the left touchline which will get fans off the edge of their seats.”

Potential injury

It remains to be seen whether Firpo is fit for Leeds’ curtain raiser away to Manchester United next weekend.

He sat out the friendly with Villarreal on Saturday night due to injury, but Marcelo Bielsa will be desperate to have him available.

The Whites had a brilliant first season back in the Premier League last term after a 16-year absence, and a good result at the Theatre of Dreams may set the tone for another cracking year.
