Foodie shares two minute recipe for £3 fried cheese bites using Babybels

If you’re a fan of melted cheese – who isn’t – then this recipe by a Reddit foodie will have you drooling until you’re able to make it.

Much like McDonald’s much-loved cheddar bites they’re made from cheese covered in a crunchy outer shell and deep fried to make a moreish mouthful.

And, they’re super easy to whip up – and can be made using Babybels so they’re cheap and easy to get a hold of.

Those looking to keep the calories a little lower can even opt to use Babybel lights!

Posting on Reddit, the foodie said: “Fried Babybel Cheese with Marinara” – and they shared their recipe in the comments.

All you’ll need is a pack of mini Babybels, some parchment paper, an egg and breadcrumbs.

If you want to make a marinara sauce or salsa then you’ll need some garlic, onion, diced tomato, basil, oregano, salt, sugar pepper and parmesan.

But, you can also buy a pre-made sauce to keep things simple.

The delicious melted cheese bites are an indulgent snack

The poster said: “Some tips that seemed to help:

“Unwrap the cheeses and then freeze them on a wax paper/parchment lined cookie sheet for an hour or so.

“Use a standard egg wash/breadcrumb batter recipe, but make sure to double dip in both!

“I had my oil at 350F (176C) and they turned out great.

“The Babybel melts faster than mozz so you want them to brown fairly fast. I probably did a minute per side.

“Deep fried, turning halfway through the cook. I used a cast iron skillet and a few cups of vegetable oil.”

To make the marinara sauce, the poster wrote: “Sautéed minced garlic and onion in a saucepan on med-low until soft.

“Diced a tomato from the garden and stirred it in to stew for a few more minutes.

“Blended two more tomatoes and dumped those in along with fresh basil and oregano.

“Added salt, sugar, pepper, and grated parmesan, simmered on low covered for about 30 minutes.”
