Klopp says Liverpool have a player who can really excite ‘the football world’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has raved about Harvey Elliott on the club’s official website.

Klopp has praised the versatility of the 18-year-old, who is a winger by trade.

The former Fulham youngster was used in midfield against Athletic Bilbao in a pre-season friendly yesterday.

Klopp was impressed by the display produced by Elliott, and so were some Liverpool fans – as covered here on HITC Sport – and believes that he is a player who can excite the football world.

The German told Liverpool’s official website about Elliott being used in midfield: “He can play the position and how you saw then a little bit later when he went up front, Mo went in the centre and Harvey played then the right wing. He smashed the ball on the crossbar in that moment.

“He can play different positions, there’s absolutely no doubt about it. But in the pre-season we wanted to see him just in a deeper role because for a young player you have to learn a lot of things when you are a bit more outside and you get the ball from time to time. We wanted to have him more involved.

“And I think he made a big step in this pre-season. If Harvey stays fit then the football world can be really excited about that. I liked his performance today, I liked his performance and attitude during the pre-season. So, good for us, good for him.”

Huge praise

Klopp seems to really rate Elliott highly.

The aforementioned comments from the Liverpool boss show just how much he likes the 18-year-old and what he expects from him in the future.

Elliott is only 18 and has a long way to go, but the signs are certainly positive.

The winger will be looking to get decent playing time for Liverpool this season and continue to improve and develop as a footballer.

The English youngster spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

Elliott made 31 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Championship for Rovers.

The teenager scored seven goals and gave 11 assists in those games.
