Maya Jama has become one of the firm fan-favourites to potentially replace Laura Whitmore on Love Island after viewers were less than impressed with the dating show host’s performance
But the former Radio 1 presenter hasn’t been paying much mind to the rumours as she’s been busy hosting this year’s Soccer Aid, while Laura headed up the Love Island reunion.
Maya has since teased that she has other plans for next year, and hopes to add something special to her roster.
The TV personality fronted the charity footballing event alongside Alex Scott and Dermot O’Leary on the weekend but tweeted afterwards that she would like to be on the pitch the following year.
Maya, 27, said: “I wanna play next year to be honest #SoccerAid.”
This comes in addition to another one of Maya’s potential career changes next year, as according to fans she is one of the front runners when it comes to replacing Laura on Love Island.
Fans of Maya’s have since taken to Twitter to support the star and big her up for the sought-after position.
One fan said: “@MayaJama can you please host Love Island next year, the lack of melanin on the show is killing me. Laura can host The One Show or Sky Sports or something.”
While another said: “I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again please bring on Maya Jama to host Love Island.”
Whereas a third penned: “Imagine how much better Love Island would be with Maya Jama presenting.”
And a fourth tweeted: “Love Island, give Maya Jama the bag and get her in! Laura is rubbish.”
But ITV have backed their decision to keep Laura at the helm of the show despite a “lukewarm” reception from fans.
It comes after a source claimed to The Sun that producers were eyeing up Maya or Love Island’s Maura Higgins to take over Laura’s role for the new summer season.
A source told the publication: “Producers are keen to keep the show fresh and are keeping their options open.
“They have been impressed with both Maya and Maura, and think either could bring the necessary pizzazz and sexiness to the role.”
The source added: “They want someone who is fun and can connect with people”, adding that as Maura had seen villa life from the inside, it would be easy for her to “relate” to contestants.
However, ITV have denied the claims, telling Daily Star: “This is untrue.
“Laura has done a fantastic job at the helm of the show this year and no discussions have yet taken place with regards to the next series.”
