Roy Keane has criticised Tottenham Hotspur-linked defender Nathan Ake on ITV (7:17pm, August 7, 2021).
What happened?
The former Manchester United defender was not impressed by Ake’s performance for Manchester City in the FA Community Shield against Leicester City on Saturday.
The 26-year-old defender, linked with Tottenham in the summer transfer window, conceded a penalty late in the game which the Foxes successfully converted to win 1-0.
The Netherlands international – who can also play as a left-back and cost City £40 million last summer, as reported by BBC Sport at the time – was adjudged to have tripped Kelechi Iheanacho inside the box.

What Roy Keane said
Keane said about Ake on ITV (7:17pm, August 7, 2021): “He is another one of these defenders that gets bored. He just switches off for that split second.”
Tottenham Hotspur links
Ake has been linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
The Daily Star reported in May that City are ready to include the former Chelsea defender in a deal to sign England international striker Harry Kane from Spurs.
No Tottenham Hotspur transfer?
City are reportedly still keen on Kane, and it remains to be seen if the Premier League champions will be able to do a player-plus-cash deal.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants £160 million for Kane, according to The Telegraph.
Spurs may not actually want Ake anymore.
That’s because the North London club have already signed a defender and another could join this month.
Cristian Romero has moved to Tottenham from Atalanta.
The Athletic have reported that Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to switch from Bologna this month.
However, anything is possible when the transfer window is open.
