Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT (09/08/21 at 9:10 am) that Harry Kane is ‘not going to down tools’ at Tottenham amid rumours that he wants a move to Manchester City

The 28-year-old was absent from Tottenham training for the majority of last week, but he claimed on Twitter that he wasn’t due to return to pre-season on August 2, but last Saturday ‘as planned’.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants to sign the Spurs striker, who is now back at Hotspur Way and ready to meet his new boss, Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sherwood was the one who worked with Kane when he was a youngster and then brought him through the ranks at White Hart Lane, as he shared his thoughts on his situation.

“I think Tottenham should have nipped it in the bud,” said Sherwood. “We know the boy better than anyone as a footballer and as a person.

“He’s not going to down tools. It’s not in his make-up. He’s not going to do it. He loves the football club. He appreciates what the football club has given him. And he just hopes he gets that same respect in return.

“He has obviously made his intentions clear that he wants to leave the club and now it’s up to the powers that be to give his way or decide to stay for another year.

“The problem with Harry staying another year is that he’s not getting younger. If he stays another year then his move is probably gone and he’s playing the rest of his career at Tottenham.”

A number of weeks remain before the summer transfer window slams shut and it will be interesting to see if Man City make a final move for Kane.

Whilst the Englishman dismissed the idea of him skipping training, one thing he didn’t acknowledge is the drama surrounding his future and those Man City claims.

Nuno’s start to life in North London hasn’t started as he would have liked and it will be interesting to see what Kane has to say to him behind closed doors.

In truth, the former Wolves boss doesn’t hold much power in this because he isn’t a big name in the game, he has just walked through the doors and this Kane-Tottenham transfer saga started well before Daniel Levy snapped up his coaching qualities.
