‘Other Two’ star Drew Tarver on being a struggling actor

Playing a struggling actor in HBO Max’s “The Other Two” sometimes hits a little too close to home for Drew Tarver.

“There were moments when you’re reading [the script], it’s so devastatingly real that it’s like, ‘Wait are you guys just making fun of me?’” Tarver, 35, told Page Six ahead of the Season 2 premiere of the comedy series, which follows two siblings living in the shadow of their famous younger brother.

He added, “[Creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider] do such a good job of capturing that experience of trying to make it as an actor or as an artist [or] as a singer that a lot of times you just kind of shiver in a scene.”

Somehow, things for Tarver and his character, Cary Dubek, get even more relatable when it comes to auditions early in the actor’s career.

“This maybe says more about my acting ability than I’d like to, but I went to quite a few commercial auditions where the role is ‘man enjoying a party,’” he said with a laugh.

“Trying to dip a chip and being like, ‘This is so fun!’ in a room that’s painted all blue and has carpet everywhere and there’s somebody who’s tired of filming actors all day being like, ‘Great, good, OK, yes, the party’s fun, you’re having fun’ and you’re just in a room by yourself being like, ‘Man, I love this guacamole!’”

The second season of “The Other Two” picks up as Cary and his sister, Brooke (Heléne Yorke), are riding the wave of their brother Chase (Case Walker)’s success as their mother, Pat (Molly Shannon), gains her own notoriety with a daytime talk show.

“He is trying to ride the wave, and the wave doesn’t look exactly like he thought it was going to, but he’s trying to hang in there,” Tarver told us.

“The Other Two” premieres Aug. 26 on HBO Max.
