A woman dubbed the real-life Rapunzel has opened up about her extremely long locks.
Alena Mazanik, from Russia, claims to spend 16 hours a week managing her 51-inch long hair.
The 35-year-old’s locks are so thick that bugs are constantly getting trapped in it.
In 1999, at the age of 13, she cut her 12-inch tresses off to fit in but swiftly realised it was a mistake.
After it had recovered from the cut, Alena continued to grow it and by the time she was 19, her hair was 22-inches long.
She started dyeing her hair until she was 23 and realised the severe damage it was causing her locks.
When she stopped colouring her hair, Alena grew her luscious locks and in 2018 she began to take it seriously.
Now her hair care routine takes 2 to 4 hours a time, at least three to four times a week.
Alena uses herbal oils and masks to massage her scalp to stimulate growth combined with shampoo and moisturising hair masks.
Following a wash, she uses sprays, creams and oils which stick in her hair to keep it in good condition.
With her 51-inch long hair it almost reaches her knees.
She documents her hair growth journey on Instagram and TikTok, where she has nearly 2 million followers, under @mazanik_aliona.
Alena said: “Sometimes the length of it causes problems, like I sit on it or catch it in a car door and it clings to door handles.
“Flies, beetles and butterflies can even become tangled in it.”
But she does receive a lot of compliments when she walks with her hair down as kids often compare her to Rapunzel.
Men often tell her “never cut your beautiful hair” and online fans say they love her locks.
However she does attract negative comments with some trolls claiming her hair looks like a horse’s tail.

She added: “Everyday people from all over the world write to me on Instagram and TikTok and admire my hair.
“Women tell me that I motivate and inspire them. They ask me for advice on how to grow their hair and I help them.
“However, some people believe that only straight and smooth hair is beautiful and my hair is unkempt.
“I explain to them that any hair can be beautiful – whether it’s straight, curly, fluffy, long or short, thick or sparse.
“You can’t hate people for their appearance. Every person is beautiful in their own way.”
