SKUNK Anansie star Skin is set to become a mum for the first time aged 54.
The rock band’s lead vocalist, real name Deborah Ann Dyer, gushed she was “really excited” about her impending arrival, with “two months to go.”
Skin is expecting her tot with writer and events planner Rayne Baron, with the pair deciding against revealing it’s gender prior to arrival.
The Hedonism vocalist told OK! Magazine: “It’s exciting and I’m trying to get as much done as I can, as once the baby comes I won’t be doing anything else for a while.
“It’s weird, I didn’t think that at my age and in my life it would happen. It’s very exciting.”
Talking about her family plans, she added to the publication: “I never wanted to have a baby myself, in my own body. But I love that someone else is going to do it.
“I’ve raised a child before in my previous relationship. I love kids and I’ve got loads of nieces and nephews.
“Kids love me because I’m silly. I’m excited about dressing up a little baby in ridiculous clothes while we can!”
Skin was previously married to partner Christiana Wyly from 2013 to 2015.
The Brixton-born performer has been dating Rayne, who goes professionally under the name Ladyfag, for four years.
Skin first broke their baby news in June when she revealed: “We’re going to be moms and we’re very excited.”
The pair were due to get married last year but their nuptials were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the meantime, Skin kept herself busy by keeping fans guessing as the Duck on TV show The Masked Singer.
In a teaser clip, Duck – dressed in a choir robe – belts out an original version of the Stormzy hit song.
Viewers were correctly convinced that the clues they’ve had so far mean it must be Skin because she was a judge on the Italian The Voice.
She also sang to Nelson Mandela on his birthday.
In an interview with The Guardian, the mum-to-be explained why she had taken part in the tea-time telly series.
She said she aimed to banish her reputation as ‘scary’ and added: “It’s the singular reason I competed in The Masked Singer.
“I wanted people to see I had a sense of humour and it worked.
“People saw I’m not that scary or serious: how could I be when I dressed up as a f**king rubber duck?”
