The Truth About Norm Macdonald And Adam Sandler’s Friendship

In 2016, the comedy crew of Sandler and Macdonald — alongside David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Nick Swardson — appeared on “Conan” and recalled some fond memories together throughout their careers. Sandler, who worked alongside Macdonald in “Billy Madison,” recalled a funny story of the two upon first meeting. As Macdonald was set to portray Frank, the best friend of Billy Madison (played by Sandler), the latter figured it’d be best to partake in some repartee beforehand to better understand Macdonald’s acting style.

“I’m doing a scene with Norm at the pool. I say my line and I think I did it very well, and then I’m like, ‘Let me see how Norm ping-pongs this line back,'” Sandler recalled during the interview. “So there was a little bit of a delay, and I was, like, ‘Old Norm likes to a take his time,'” Sandler said, before adding, “I’m waiting longer and going, ‘Wow, he’s really milking this one.’ And a few more seconds later I noticed old Norm was sleeping.” Macdonald then interjected, saying, “They wanted to me to play a drunk, and so I said, ‘You got some booze?'” Macdonald also revealed that when Sandler initially addressed him as Frank, he was left wondering: “Who the f*ck is Frank?”

We’re sure Adam Sandler is missing his good friend Norm Macdonald today.
